Town Centres
In an effort to link this area with other ri-led regeneration initiatives in and around the town centres, a high quality landscaped activity and events space has been created at the entrance to Cathcart Street. New signage and an eye-catching sculpture not only herald a visitor’s arrival in Greenock but also provide a direct and visually pleasing pedestrian link across the A8 between the old town and the new waterside developments.
ri will develop further proposals to complement the works already carried out under the Town Centre Regeneration Fund activity which completed in 2010. A key strand of the new proposals will focus on facilitating cruise liner passenger and crew access to Greenock town centre, further footpath improvements, road crossing and environmental enhancement works to shops and buildings will be implemented at Grey Place and West Blackhall Street to complement the Town Centre Regeneration public realm works recently completed.
ri anticipates that detailed design work will commence at the Ocean Terminal in Greenock to lengthen the quay wall to increase capacity for ocean liner visits and that the arrivals hall will be further enhanced to improve the visitor experience. This facility will also be designed to complement the Energy and Renewables proposition.
